Scholarship Foundation

Tidewater Builders Association Scholarship Foundation was established to award college scholarships to local high school seniors. Since 1965, the scholarship foundation has awarded close to $1.8 million to hundreds of area students. Students do not have to major in the building trades, and awards are distributed over a four-year period

In 2019, six $5,000 scholarships were awarded. The recipients were selected by a committee of builders, educators, and local business members. Awards are based on academic success, financial need, and community involvement.

Awards were also presented to four high school students and two instructors in the Young Designers' Scholarship Competition.

2019 Scholarship House

School's back in session ... and it's a great time to contribute to the TBA Scholarship House!

Sam Cohen of Joey Corp., along with Kempsville Building Materials/Carter Lumber, is continuing TBA's rich tradition of building a Scholarship House to help area students attend college.

Named The Grayton Downes Scholarship House, the home will be on display during Homearama Oct. 25-Nov. 10, highlighting TBA members' commitment to giving back to the community through its annual scholarship program.

Your help is needed, however, to maximize the contribution that will be made from the home's sale.  If you have a product or service to offer, or want to make a cash donation, please contact Cohen at 757-647-6575 or joeycorp@cox.net.

It's been eight years since a Scholarship House was built, but the TBA Scholarship Foundation has continued to award grants every year.  It's time, however, to replenish the funds and your help will be greatly appreciated.
